Our History

How we began

TREE (Training Resources for Enabling Enterprises) Society originated as a result of discussions with C.K. Ganguly of Timbaktu Collective. Timbaktu Collective is a voluntary organisation which has formed numerous village based organisations of the rural poor and promoted various producer-owned, mutually-aided business enterprises.

"The people we work with should participate in larger markets and they should do so from a position of strength. We must work on equipping them with skills and knowledge to do so". These thoughts led to like-minded professionals coming together to formulate, design, develop and deliver a unique training program called CREAM (Certificate in Rural Enterprise Administration and Management).  ICCO provided initial funding and Timbaktu Collective helped TREE Society take root.

Registration

TREE Society is incorporated under the Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act of 1955. Its area of operation includes all states and union territories of India.

Testimonials

I am using some of the CREAM material to teach other members of my organization and that is a very useful thing for me and for them.
Rabbani, NGO Staff, CREAM 2009
The data sheets help us in preparation of projection for the next year business and analysis of the business done in the last year. It helps us to trained Local Agri entrepreneurs (Tomato business men) for preparing the Tomato Trading business plan.
Nandalal Baksi, Coordinator, TSRD (Tagore Society for Rural Development ), CREAM 2010
The CREAM training helped me in managing my project well as well as to manage my supervisor to get a good synchronous production plan this year.
Sudipta Das, RDA, CREAM 2010
In our area of business, taking consideration the operational management, first of all we can forecast the sales. Keeping in mind the sales forecast, we can go simultaneously for purchase plan, production plan and the distribution plan for the whole poultry business. At present it is running more effectively.

I realise that, it is more than enough learnings from CREAM trainings. Now it's the time to put it in practice.
Vivek Das, VB.NET, CREAM 2010
Before CREAM only a few people (amongst those who attended the program) used to maintain books but others didn't. CREAM changed that as everyone got to know different types of costs and began to note down their business transactions.
NGO Staff, Seva Mandir, CREAM 2011
The course is very useful for people in independent businesses, who are the decision makers; “tarah tarah ke idea aate hain, sochne ki kshramta badhti hai”, decision making approach has improved and become more systematic
NGO Staff, Seva Mandir, CREAM 2011
Can explain all costs and reason for high price to customers in exhibitions, don’t have to remain silent when they question me

I have learnt how to make a P&L and what steps can we take to at least break-even. We can apply this in my work next week.
